I was thrilled to photograph this exciting new project by John Donkin Architect and RND Construction which went on to become a finalist at the Greater Ottawa Home Builders Association (GOHBA) Housing Design Awards in several categories and won the prestigious “Green Custom Home of the Year” award.
This year’s awards were a hotly contested lot with incredible submissions from the top architects and builders in the city. We had submitted this Sandy Hill home for building details but, I will note, that the trellises as they are now are incomplete. They are designed to allow vines to grow along side of the building, further reducing energy costs as they absorb the suns rays, and creating a lush canopy for this urban home.
It was a long day of shooting, complicated by the sheer vertical space of the project, and three aged dogs (seriously, working around those guys was rough… get it!?) but, in the end, winning Green Custom Home of the Year was worth it. You can see a full list of the winners over at the Ottawa Citizen.
