New to my interior photography portfolio this year is Just Basements Ottawa, a company that specializes in (wait for it) basements! I had the pleasure of photographing three of their properties for the GOHBA awards this year for submission into two categories (yes, they compete against themselves). See some more of their work below.
This was, by far, my favourite basement to shoot. Far from the typical Award submission, this “Uptown Basement Loft” took the basement of a old home (not unlike my own, but probably a bit dryer), kept the exposed support beams, polished the concrete floor, and turned it into a livable space. Far from smooth and modern, this is totally the kind of aesthetic I personally enjoy, and to no surprise it won for Basement Renovation $75,000 and under.
This category was practically created for the Just Basements team. I photographed two out of their three entries into this category and, while impressive, they lost out to a third submission by Just Basements that I didn’t shoot. INCONCEIVABLE!
Compared to my Blair-witch like basement each one of these is a paradise. I can’t wait to see some of their upcoming projects.
