How fortuitous that my favourite hair stylist (yes, I get a “fancy” haircut) and one of my favourite interior photography clients came together to design the new Mint Hair Studio. While Grassroots Design hasn’t done a great deal of commercial interiors, I instantly fell in love with this transformed space.
Emma took a space that was falling apart and transformed it into a simple, classic and practical location for an expanded hair salon. The fixtures were hold-overs from their previous location, but the waiting area is expanded with a distinctive colour-code that we’ve become familiar with in the work from Grassroots Design.
Emma does a great job of adding just the right kind of smart details to a project. That textured wallpaper on the ceiling is white and bright, but gives the otherwise flat surface visual appeal without the added expense of the tin tiles. Of course, the highlight for me was the back room. With an opened up ceiling exposing the roof and a chandelier centrepiece over the small kitchen, it becomes a location not just to have your hair cut, coloured, and styled, but a truly comfortable location to spend some time among friends.
I speak from experience, since I spent quite a bit of time here this past month getting haircuts for the whole family.
