I’ve always been a photographer whose style reflects his client’s needs. While I certainly put my own creative and technical spin on everything I do, it’s rare that I take the time to create images that are reflective of what I’m purely interested in. So, despite the popularity and praise I receive for my interior and architectural photography, I chose to focus on people. I love working with people, the complexity of photographing human subjects is not so much a technical feat (as it can be with kitchens), but an emotional one. Tasked with making a connection and, hopefully, producing good images in what always feels like too-short-a-time. That said, I made it a bit easier on myself by working with some of the kindest people I know, and those who maybe don’t spend too much time in front of the camera either, as they’re all photographers themselves.
When Darren’s not busy being a stud-muffin, he’s capturing people’s most personal moments.
Kate’s taken a bit of a break from full time photography, she’s got the chops, but being a new mom is keeping her hands full.
Dave Chan “the Man” is an acclaimed Ottawa photojournalist who served as the personal photographer to Prime Minister Paul Martin. While his photography is widely recognized, perhaps it’s his gentle demeanour and generosity that should really be recognized.
Ashley Fraser is a tireless photojournalist with a frenetic energy that can also be seen in style magazines and late-night galas. To compliment that, her session was full of the distraction of set building in-studio, children and small dogs running around. Catching a contemplative moment in that context is purely serendipitous.
For the photo geeks, all of these images were shot with Elinchrom lights and mods, a mix of ELC Pro HD 1000’s, ELB 400, and a ELB 1200. Colours, because, why not? 🙂
